"I just had no release point for my rage other than to kill a person...They meant less than a dog did."
Gary Leon Ridgway, Green River Killer
Serial killers were understood to be a unique recent development, a phenomenon attributed to the excess of a pathological American culture. Our purpose in this group is to construct the profile of the six most important serial killers in the history of United States. However, we do not intend to praise the behaviour of these humans who usually enjoyed causing suffering or highlight the supposedly preponderance of the US as a nation that has produced the most mediatic serial killers in history. Our goal is to try to highlight some issues of American culture through the underground culture of serial kill, their profiles, and their relationship with different members of the society. Therefore I have decided we are going to focus on six serial killers whose image and "legend " have been extensively exploited in the media. These murderers are:
JOHN WAYNE GACY, JR. (1942-1994)
EDMUND EMIL KEMPER III (1948)
JEFFREY DAHMER (THE MILWAUKEE CANNIBAL, 1960-1994)
THEODORE "TED" ROBERT COWELL BUNDY (1946-1989)
CHARLES MILLES MANSON (1934)
GARY LEON RIDGWAY (THE GREEN RIVER KILLER, 1949)
Every single entry will provide a thorough profile of each serial killers with different files that will provide some insight in this horrifying issue as well as we will try to tackle the relationship of these serial killer cases with the media and how media have affected our view of them.
